Minimalist Altered Canvas | Tips and Techniques

Hi there!

Laura here sharing a fun home decor DIY today.  I have been wanting to create several "art" pieces for a while now, and recently I got around to knocking one of these off my to do list!

This canvas in very minimalist and focuses on the font, the one word says it all!

I used some of my chunky chipboard Thickers stash (they are easier to paint over than the other styles of Thickers), Zip Dry (to secure the Thickers and make sure they stay stuck), Gesso, and white paint.

After securing the alphas and letting the glue dry, I painted the whole thing with two coats of Gesso, which acts as a bonding agent for the paint as well as a primer.

And then I added two coats of white paint, to make sure it was good and covered.

I am loving how it turned out, I am working on a gallery wall for my family room, but at the moment htis piece is hanging out int he living room!

Thanks fro visiting!

Button Tack DIY | Tutorial

Hi there!

Laura here today sharing a little quick and easy tutorial.  If you are anything like me then you might also be a collector of buttons!  I love to use them on almost all of my projects so I tend to buy them when I see colours that I like - which is pretty much all the time!  As I have been working on getting my scrap room in order I thought I should put some of my button stash to good use and use them to embellish my room, too!

Today my plain Jane cork board tacks are getting a bit of a makeover with a little bit of Glossy Accents and some pretty buttons.

It is so easy and I am sure I don't need to tell you how to do this, yup just add adhesive to the back of the tack and set it on the button.  It is so nice that they sit flat it makes drying so much easier.

If you put them on a little tray with a piece of waxed paper to protect your tray you can move them out of your way while they dry.  Drying time = playing time, right?

Here is a little peek at a few, I can't wait to use them!

Thanks for visiting today!

Fun Fold Mini Album | Tutorial

Hi there!

Laura here today sharing a mini album technique I taught last Spring at a retreat.

For the front and back covers, I simply covered two pieces of chipboard that were cut to measure the same size as the finished pages.  You could even use a recycled cereal box if you do not have chipboard. Don't forget to cover both the front and backs of the chipboard. I used a single hole and jump ring to attach my covers and pages together.

To create the pages, start by ensuring the side of the paper you want to face out (this will be the main pattern showing on the finished product) is facing down on your score board.

Step 1 - score your 12 x 12 paper down the centre at the 6" mark

Step 2 - turn your paper clockwise 90 degrees, score at the 3.5" and 8.5" marks

Step 3 -  Fold each of the four corners toward the score lines that are 3.5" from the outer edges.

Step 4 - Trim along the score line that runs through the centre (the first score we made) just until it hits the 3.5" score line that intersects it.  Repeat for the other side.

Now begin folding your pages along the score lines, follow the next few photo steps.

Next we will add in the adhesive, to secure things into place.  Be sure to keep your adhesive in narrow bands along the outer edges only.

Add adhesive along either side of the centre seem.

And under this flap on either side.  Basically, you have just created two pockets.

Now fold your paper like so.

Add adhesive just to your bottom and side edges, not the top. This creates another pocket.

Now your page should sit like this.  In the photos below you will see how each page will hold 3 tabbed inserts.  This allows you to add a lot of photos or memorabilia to your mini album, don't forget you can use both sides of the tabbed inserts..

The final several photos show you how I decorated my mini to accommodate even more photos and some fun embellishments.  This is just a sample of what you could do,

When you think that each page has two sides plus 3 double sided inserts, that is a lot of memories on a single page!  You can add as many pages as you need to document your story.  What a fun way to share photos of a holiday! Have fun making your mini your own!
