Sketch-y Friday

Hi there!

Inspiration on Thursday

Hi there!

I have some super fun inspiration for you today!  Elaine has recently scrapped an older photo of her and her husband (when they were teens and dating) and a recent photo taken when they renewed their wedding vows this past spring.  It is super fun to see the two layout side by side.

I think you will agree with me that both layouts are wonderful even though they are very different.

The fun water themed LYB papers and large multi font title really make a statement and draw the eye through the layout.
More LYB papers but this time they have a more homey and pretty feeling to them  A beautiful cluster of embellies finishes this layout off nicely.

Why don't you try to scrap photos of the same person (s)  from two different  times.  How different will your layouts be?  Leave us a comment with your blog address (or other link) if you do... we will be sure to stop by and leave you some love.  Also, don't forget you can email anything you wish to share, to me here, to have them shown off on our Thursday blog posts.

Thanks for visiting!

Tutorial Wednesday - Die Storage

Hi there!

I have another quick and easy tip for you today.  In the next few weeks I will be back with more detailed tutorials, however, I am keeping it simple for now as we are busy, busy enjoying the last week of summer.

Once the kiddies return to school I will be giving my house a thorough clean and organizing - being away for a chunk of the summer has wreaked havoc on it, especially my craft room!   Grabbing things for projects to take away with us and then tossing them back in when we return - repeatedly - as we turn around and leave again, means it is a mess.

I thought I'd share my die storage with you today.  I wanted something ...

-simple, so they would get put away again
-cheap, because I would rather spend my money on papers and embellies
-portable, so I could quickly grab what I want to take to crops and our trailer

... this seems to work nicely and fall into all three categories.

I picked up these photo magnets at our local dollar store.
I sliced off the seal at one end only.
then added an extra piece of cardboard to the back for stability.  A cereal box works well.
Then simply stick the dies onto the magnetic side.
They all fit nicely into this dollar store fabric basket.

I keep a few extra photo magnets on hand just in case I buy more dies!  Oh, who am I kidding - of course I buy more dies!

Anyway, when I go to a crop, retreat or to our trailer I just grab the ones I want (or the whole basket) and I am set!

August Colour Challenge and Sketch Challenge Winners

Hi there!

I am just popping in quickly to share the winners of the Color Challenge and the Sketch Challenge for August.  I will be back shortly with your weekly tutorial.

Colour Challenge Winner

I used Random Integer to draw the winner.

Random Integer Generator

Here are your random numbers:
5
Timestamp: 2012-08-28 04:22:33 UTC

Which means the winner is Sandy R!

 Sketch Challenge Winner

This draw is a little trickier as you are required to play along with at least 2 sketches in order to qualify, therefore, I cannot use Random Integer to draw a winner.  So I put all the qualifying participant's names into a pot and drew for a winner.

Cheryl O.  congratulations!

Winners please email ScrapMuch? here, to find out how to claim your prize!

Thanks to everyone for playing along, I hope you all will join us again next month!

Inspiration on Thursday

Hi there!

Elaine has been busy scrapping lovely pictures of her beautiful new baby girl.  Just to inspire us... okay maybe not, but she is kind enough to share with us so that we can be inspired!  And she shows us a few tips too!

Great colour combination for a neutral photo.  These bold colours aren't just for older girls.
Using a themed paper collection to reinforce the happenings in your photo,.  This collection with it's sweet little houses, is great for new home layouts, or moving day.... but also for bringing HOME baby!
Use a large scale embellie to draw the eye throughout the entire layout.  And do a girl layout without a lot of pink!

Thanks for sharing Elaine, definitely and inspirational week!

What are you creating?  Don't forget you can email them to me here, to have them shown off on our Thursday blog posts.

Tutorial Wednesday - Sharpen those punches

Hi there!

I have just a really quick tutorial for you today.

Are you a punch lover?  Do you notice your punches getting dull... making it harder to punch through papers, thinner ones especially?  Well there is a quick fix for that.

(sorry for the harsh shadows.... it was really super sunny in the craft room today)

 pull out the tin foil
punch through it a few times with your dull punches

now they will punch crisply through your papers again... even the tin ones!

Thanks for joining me today!

Tutorial Wednesday

Hi there!

I have a fun little tutorial for you today.  This would make a great party favour or something to pop into your purse or diaper bag if you have lots of running around to do or appointments to go to.

I started out by opening a Word Document onto my computer and cutting and pasting some freebie digital stamps and coloring pages onto the blank Word page, resizing them to fit into about 1/4 of the page, as I went along.

You can find free digital stamps here and free coloring pages here.  Both sites update often.

I cut all of the images down to 4" x 5.25".  Then I stacked the coluring sheets up onto a piece of cardstock, scored at 5.5" and 11", just below the 5.5" score mark, so that the sheets are nestled between the 2 score lines.
Now pierce along the top of your colouring pages, right through the cardstock below.
And start stitching.  Any embroiery floss like thread will do.
Now go back the other way.
Now fold the cardstock along the score lines.  You should end up with something that resembles this.
Sort of like a match book.
Run some ribbon around the bottom of your booklets.  I stapled mine on, I will be hiding the staples in the next step.
 A little bottom.

And then decorate the front.... just like a card.... you can even personalize it.

And that's it... minute to create, easy to mass produce!

Here is the sketch for this week.....

Tutorial Wednesday - Mr. Huey's journaling lines

Hi there!

I have a fun and easy tip to share with you today!

As always, start by gathering your supplies.  You will need Mr. Huey's spray mist in the colour of your choice, a scrap piece of paper in the length you would like your journaling lines to be, and some clear plastic food wrap.  Rally you can mist onto a paint palette or whatever you have.  You will see why I like the food wrap below.
Mist a good puddle of mist onto the food wrap, trying to keep it in a line.
Now dab your scrap piece of paper into it to saturate the edge.
Next use this piece of scrap paper just like a stamp to create journaling lines.
Re-wet the paper for each line and continue on for as many lines as you will need.
For this demo, I created my lines on another piece of paper that could be trimmed down to create a journaling tag.  You an also stamp your lines right onto your layout.
This is why I like the food wrap.... simply fold up the extra mist and the scrap paper into the food wrap and toss it into the garbage.... no mess!  I love that!
This is a layout that I used this technique on.  I smudged my first one a little, but I don't mind that look - handmade and all!

Thanks fro visiting!
